Introduction

StonePine Alliance Co., Ltd. was established in January 2019 by investment specialist group for the purpose of long-term growth of its own capital through corporate investments.



Stone pine is a kind of pine tree native to the Mediterranean region,
also known as an umbrella pine for its similar appearance to an umbrella.

StonePine’s managing members hope to generate stable returns for its
own and potential sponsors just as stone pine forest in time of the Roman Empire
served a nice place to rest for Roman legion.

Investment Strategy

We generate returns from unconstrained opportunity sets across public and private markets in and out of country. Majority of our investments are public and private equities, but we also invest in CB(convertible bonds), BW(bonds with warrant), ETF(Exchange Traded Funds) and futures. Our performance has been quite differentiated from that of public market index since we leverage on selective opportunities less correlated with market index. We tend to endure higher risks for higher long-term capital gains.

Public Market

We see many investors lose money by being forced to buy-high and sell-low due to their short-term orientation and strict guidelines. Investing from the opposite side of such investors, in a longer horizon, provides us with a better chance of winning. As a supplement to our long-term investments, we run a shorter-term even-driven book trading around special situations such as IPO, M&A, spin-off, capital increase and earnings announcement. Finally, not very often, we use hedge overlay strategies to protect entire public market portfolio.

Private Market

StonePine’s core strengths lie in its corporate research and private deal sourcing network that enable us to find opportunities in earlier stages when valuation is extremely low. We maximize returns by exiting from IPO, M&A or following funding rounds when valuation becomes richer. We have also closed a number of co-investment deals based on our strong alliance with prestigious GPs and LPs. Historically, we have generated good returns by investing in Biotechnology/Healthcare, IT and Gaming industries.
